General discussion about all things Emerge.

Like it, but . . .

Postby lonehorseend » Mon May 28, 2012 8:04 am

Even with 8GB of Ram in my system, I'm always looking to keep my profile as small as possible and keep my memory for the important stuff like Photoshop. So I've been trying to Emerge Desktop for the last couple of days. I'm really like the fact that on one monitor of a three monitor system, I basically have everything I need for monitoring and controlling my system, thanks to Rainmeter and Emerge.

My only complaint is that every time I play a full screen game or I come back from hibernating my computer, I lose either my launcher or my tray. Sometimes the bars are still there, but I cannot highlight them. Other times they are completely gone. Also, while I have only two Launchers active, it's showing 3 Launcher.exe's in my Task Manager.

The monitor that I have Emerge and Rainmeter on is not my primary monitor. I also have Emerge installed on my D: drive under Applications instead of C:\Program Files. Finally, I'm running Comodo Internet Security, but I made it so that it allows for all parts of Emerge to have complete access to my system.

Hi lonehorseend

Welcome to the Emerge Desktop forum

That is probably causing most (all?) of the problems

So, both of these should not be causing any troubles (eD is prepared to run in self contained mode even from a removable drive)

Any ideas, ironhead?

Hmmm in my experience, it doesn't matter which monitor is primary. In fact, in older versions of emerge it would often move all of my applets OFF the primary screen onto my right monitor (I have three monitors on my desktop as well).

Usually when the applets disappear, it's because the game changed the resolution and that kicks the applets offscreen. Maybe try using the anchor feature, if you haven't already. I believe it tries to keep the applets in their relative positions regardless of what happens to the resolution.

In the emergehotkeys app, you can bind show and hide applets to a hotkey. Try toggling show/hide when the applets are unable to be pressed or missing, if they aren't offscreen.

It's very strange that this happens after hibernation and after each game you play... I hate to say it but I think these might be new bugs in the release 6 :/

I was able to recreate the issue with loosing my launcher after returning from Hibernate (tray was fine). I will investigate.

Thank you every one for the warm welcome, feedback and prompt response.

I tried that, but it only seems to position the items on the various montiors. For example, Top Left goes to the Top of my Leftmost monitor. I can easily overrule this by doing a CTRL-Right Click and moving the item.

My graphics setup is 2 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Tis with the 296.10 driver. They just came out with 301.42 on May 22 and I'm thinking about updating.

Taking a quick look at the code I suspect the bug is in the relative positioning code. As a temporary work around, assuming you don't change your resolution on purpose (i.e. it only changes because of running games, etc.) you can try disabling dynamic positioning by deselecting the Anchor Point (i.e. make sure there is no check mark beside it) in each applet.

Real Life is unfortunately quite hectic this week, so I wouldn't be able to investigate further until next week.

Ok. I'll try that. Thanks, Ironhead.

Disabling the Anchorpoint did help.
